Here’s a brief history about the founding of the Hotel Seymour.

Is the current Hotel Seymour the original?

The original Hotel Seymour, called the Hotel Falck, was built by George Falck beginning in 1898. Opening in 1899, the Hotel Seymour consisted of a 40-foot-wide by 78-foot-long structure with two stories and a full basement that contained a barbershop and public showers for travelers to use as they made their way through town on the Green Bay and Western Railroads.

The original structure featured all the latest modern conveniences of the time, including steam heat, gas light and plumbing throughout. In terms of interior design, guests took advantage of the most handsome furnishings available at the time. Overall, the hotel was renowned for its elegance and sophistication.

During the hotel’s heyday, salesmen traveling the country by rail would set up shop in the lobby, showcasing their wares and making demonstrations to interested travelers. During this time, the hotel featured 28 rooms and several shared restrooms with a budget-friendly rate of just $1 per day. The hotel also provided an additional unique amenity: free transportation. Guests could use the hotel’s horses, stabled in the rear, to get around town as they pleased.

Modern times

The Hotel Seymour remained a welcome sight for travelers throughout the early 20th century. In 1951, the hotel’s name was officially changed to Hotel Seymour. The ‘50s were a challenging decade for the hotel, as a major fire damaged portions of the upper level. After renovations, the hotel reopened; it remains a popular location for travelers and locals alike to this day.
